it's dangerous on the streets

the scars they have to show are proof enough,

they are children living in an adult world

Running time: 30 minutes

"This documentary is an intimate experience from the lives of two young children living on the street," "Scars" follows the everyday routine of - Charlie, aged 11, from Chukutown, near Milnerton and Simphiwe,13, from Town Two in Khayelitsha. They are best friends despite language difficulties, Charlie mostly speaking Afrikaans and Simphiwe, Xhosa. Both are masters at the tough art of surviving in the city. Charlie can't remember when he first started "strolling" but it was a long time ago. At night they mostly stay awake to avoid the dangers of the streets, described by them as murder, rape, shooting and stabbing. The two boys speak freely about themselves, difficulties at home and their colourful dreams for the future.
